Dave Brubeck died today, one day short of his 92nd birthday. With his passing, the world of jazz--and the world of music as a whole--lost one of its great luminaries. As a wannabe jazz pianist myself, Brubeck was an inspiration, and his Time Out remains one of the greatest jazz albums of all time. With Time Out, Brubeck showed how truly innovative and amazing he was, and, even after owning album myself for over 15 years (thanks, Mom and Dad!), every time I listen to it I hear something different and feel excited for music all over again.
You will be missed, Dave.
